Our Story

Every piece we make starts with a conversation. At Matthew Taylor Designs, we design fine jewelry with you, not for you, and Matthew makes each piece by hand in our Shelburne shop, from the first sketch to the final polish.

 

Matthew earned his B.F.A. in Metalsmithing from Maine College of Art, where his 1993 thesis, “Moving Metals: Raising and Anticlastic Raising,” explored shaping metal in three dimensions. That sculptor’s eye still guides his work today, whether he’s hand carving a design in wax, fabricating it at the bench or refining it in CAD.

Matthew takes the time to get to know each client, because the best pieces carry a story: an engagement, an anniversary, a milestone worth marking. Working together, he turns that story into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry, made to be worn every day and passed down for years to come.

Matthew calls Shelburne, Vermont home with his wife Brianne Taylor and their three children.  On many occasions you will find one, or all of them with him in his shop, keeping him company and helping with the store so that he can have the time he needs to focus on the fine details in his pieces, from start to finish.
